Markets worldwide.

I lead the Morocco project for one of the world's leading fresh produce groups — connecting it with the Moroccan field. I source fruit and vegetables at the farm gate and place them with importers, wholesalers and retail across the UK, Europe and beyond — the right growers, the right programme and quality that holds all the way to the shelf.

Why Morocco

A rising giant of global food & trade

Fourteen kilometres from Europe at the Strait of Gibraltar, Morocco has quietly become one of the world's most important agricultural exporters — feeding European supermarkets through the winter, anchoring global fertiliser supply, and moving record volumes through Africa's leading port. This is the origin I work in, and the reason the supply case is so strong.

01 — Agriculture

An agricultural powerhouse

Agriculture drives around 11% of Morocco's GDP and roughly 40% of employment. Two decades of national strategy — Plan Maroc Vert, then Generation Green 2020–2030 — have already more than doubled agricultural exports, with a target of 60 billion dirhams by 2030.

02 — Fresh produce

Europe's winter garden

The world's #3 tomato exporter and a top-five mandarin exporter, shipping some 550,000 tonnes of citrus a season — plus berries, avocados, peppers and melons that reach European shelves precisely when local fields lie dormant.

03 — Industry

A world-class export engine

Morocco exported some $67.5 billion of goods and services in 2024. Automotive is now the #1 export sector at roughly $15 billion — Morocco is Africa's largest car manufacturer — with aerospace, textiles and $1.8 billion of seafood alongside phosphates and agri-food.

04 — Logistics

Gateway infrastructure

Tanger Med ranks among the world's five most efficient container ports (World Bank CPPI), wired into 180+ ports worldwide. Produce leaves the packhouse and reaches Rungis, Rotterdam or London in days — cold chain intact.

Overview

A single point of accountability

Between a buyer's specification and a grower's harvest there is a gap where most fresh produce programmes fail. My role is to close it — at origin, in the packhouse, and with the buyer.

I operate on the Moroccan side of the supply chain on behalf of importers and retail customers abroad: qualifying producers, agreeing volumes and pricing, setting the quality standard, and holding both sides to what was agreed for the length of the season.

1

Origin-based

Decisions made at the farm and the packhouse, not at a distance.

2

Programme-led

Contracted season supply in place of opportunistic spot trade.

3

Specification-first

The written standard governs — variety, calibre, colour, pack.

4

Accountable

One named contact for both grower and buyer, week to week.

Categories

What I source

Morocco produces a full seasonal basket, and the programme follows the buyer rather than a fixed list. The categories below are where I work most — if it grows here at commercial scale, it can be sourced.

Harvesting ripe tomatoes in a Moroccan greenhouse Souss-Massa · Agadir belt
Citrus

Clementines & oranges

Nadorcott, Afourer and Valencia for the winter and spring export programme.

Avocado

Hass & green skin

Northern orchards, handled through to ripening and retail-ready condition.

Vegetables

Tomatoes

Round, vine and cherry from the Agadir belt — the backbone of the winter season.

Vegetables

Peppers

Bell and pointed peppers, colour-sorted and packed to the buyer's grade.

Berries

Strawberries & blueberries

Gharb and Loukkos berry country — the ground I know best.

Melons

Melon & watermelon

Early-season Galia, Charentais and seedless watermelon ahead of the European crop.

Fine vegetables

Beans, courgette & squash

Fine beans, courgette, aubergine and squash — pre-packed or loose to order.

Dates

Medjool & Boufeggous

Oasis-grown dates for retail and food service, graded by size and moisture.

Markets & routes

Farm gate to retail shelf

Morocco sits days — not weeks — from Europe by road and sea, and within air-freight reach of everywhere else. Proximity is the commercial case; planning every handover is what makes it hold. I work with importers, wholesalers, ripeners and retail programmes across the UK and Europe, and with buyers further afield where the season and the specification fit.

01 — Packhouse

Graded to your brand

Grading, optical sorting, ripening and packing to the buyer's brand and specification before anything moves.

Reefer road, sea and air routes, with cold chain and export paperwork handled so the fruit arrives in condition and on time.

03 — Shelf

Judged at retail

Delivered to importers, wholesalers and their retail customers — where the specification, and the relationship behind it, are judged.

How I work

Four steps, no surprises

01

Brief

The specification, volumes, timing and price ceiling — written down plainly before anyone gets on a plane.

02

Search

Region by region: shortlist growers, visit the plots, check the packing, and rule out those who cannot hold the line.

03

Agree

Trial pallets first, then a season agreement setting out volumes, quality standard and pricing structure.

04

Run it

Weekly contact with both sides, problems raised early, and an honest review at the end of the season.

Practice

Sourcing & supply chain

I work in fresh produce sourcing and supply chain, covering the Moroccan side on behalf of buyers abroad — from qualifying the grower through to dispatch, for the length of the season.
